Numérologie
Seemingly innocuous, numbers have significant meaning and power.
- The Medenad, containing Nothingness. Called a multitude of names throughout history - Abyss, Void, Khaos, Absu - zero is the number of such a thing, being "no thing" at all. Disintegration, Erasure, and Deletion are some of its abilities. Nothingness strives to equalise everything back into itself, even the Silence and the Darkness.
- The Monad, containing the power of Unity. Calling back to the original state of all worlds - a singular entity containing all her potential aspects while not containing them at all.
- The Dyad, containing the power of Balance. Calling back to when the Monad split into the original duality: Seen and Unseen, the Physical Plane and the Unseen Plane. Two aspects of Reality occupying the same space.
- The Triad, or Trinity, containing the power of Harmony. Calling back to the original trinity of Light, Darkness, and Twilight (A.K.A. The In-Between, The Betwixt). These three forces are the basis of reality, the stone slab supporting the other forces of Creation. Likewise, three lines make a triangle, beginning the formation of images and shapes later turning into concrete reality. Triangles are a sign of higher realms, the alchemical symbols for the Four Elements being four differing triangles. In Demonology and the Occult, a triangle is used to contain a dangerous or malicious spirit, calling back to the power of this harmonic trio.
- The Tetrad, or Quaternity, containing the power of Manifestation. If three points create the basic shape of the Second Dimension, then four points create the basic shape in the Third Dimension, the Tetrahedron. Four also calls back to the Four Elements, each forming an integral part of the natural world: Air, Fire, Earth, Water. Each element is tied to the four directions, seasons and their respective energetic apexes (Solstices and Equinoxes), and four of the seven major chakra points.
- The Pentad, containing the power of Life. As with previous numbers, Four contains Five by way of four points around a fifth in its centre. Likewise, the Four Elements do not exist in a vacuum. Where the Four meet, the Fifth blooms forth - also giving them a united space to exist in and with. Called Aether or Quintessence throughout the ages, these terms have painted an inaccurate picture of the Fifth Element, for it is neither the Energy of the Creation Mother nor Spirit as neither of those may be manipulated outside of twisted practices. The Fifth Element is Space, containing aspects of the Four while manifesting as its own unique substance. A fifth point also gives rise to the Fourth Dimension, where shapes begin to move through time. The Archangel Camael, manifested in this star system as the planet Mars, wears an iron breastplate with a pentagram upon it. Eons of magick users, witches and occultists alike, have turned to this symbol for protection, unwittingly calling upon Camael's power of protection and defense against the tides of Evil. On a final note: the Icosahedron, the Platonic solid associated with Water contains four sets of five triangles, giving it the power of the manifestation of Life itself, much like in nature.
- The Hexad, containing the power of Structure and Order. This is found in the Judeo-Christian mythos via the six days of Creation. Saturn, Lady of all Cosmic Laws, happens to have a hexagon at at her north pole from a peculiar collection of storms holding it in place. The power of Six is also found absolutely in the Earth Element. The Root Chakra, unbalanced, manifests as fear and instability - a complete opposite to its balanced state as the Chakra tied to Earth.
- The Heptad. It is believed that the power of this number originated with the discovery of the seven major chakra points. The chakra points can also be connected to colour spectrum, the planets of antiquity, and the elements (including a connection with energy itself). The planets, too, have their own corresponding metals, days of the week, and hours of power. The Seed of Life symbol contains six connected circles interlocked by a seventh. Likewise, in Jewish lore, God rested on a seventh day after six of creation.
- The Octad. In the Seven Steps of Ascension, the unseen eighth step leads the seeker to a new perception and existence. Architecture used the octagon to symbolise a bridge between Heaven and Earth. This is reflected in the Eightfold Path and the elements that exist in the cosmos, forming a complete model of nature. The power of Eight calls upon this completeness and the ascension previous.
- The Ennead, containing the power of Creation herself. As with Five, a ninth energy emerges from the Eight Elements. This energy is the Source of All Things and runs through everything in existence like an unseen river. Because of its nature, it cannot be controlled or channeled like the Elements. It simply is. True power and endless potential.
- The Decad, containing all things, or rather The Omniverse. From the very small, each twist in the DNA Helix has ten steps. From the largest, the Omniverse is a ten-dimensional shape containing all universes and each universe's timelines (multiverse) - all possibilities for every atom, leaf, intelligent life form. In Magick, there are ten major planetary bodies outside of our own, each being the physical embodiment of a certain cosmic force holding reality together. In tarot, each suit has ten cards before ascending to archetypes (Page/youth, Knight, Queen/sacred feminine, King/sacred masculine), the tenth usually symbolising the end of a journey.
- The Undecad. In traditional numerology, it is a Master Number, whose power can only attend by those of extreme spiritual ascent/evolution/vibration. The eleventh planet the other ten energetically intersect with is this planet, Earth. It is the physical embodiment of the Secret Keeper, Archangel Raziel. In Kabbalah, there is an eleventh, oft unseen Sefira called Da'at that acts as both the meeting place of the other ten and a portal to its equivalent on the Qlippoth.
- The Dodecad, containing the power of the Guardians - known in this world as the Zodiac Constellations. Twelve is a system within itself. There are twenty-four hours in one day, a double of twelve. Twelve months fill the year. And in one system, there are twelve major chakra points. The Dodecahedron is made of twelve pentagons. Each being on this planet is born under specific circumstances - with the other planetary bodies residing in an array of the twelve zodiac constellations - determining the individual's personality, self, and goals.
- The Triskaidecad. This final number is possibly the most mysterious. Oft misrepresented as an omen of evil or bad luck, Thirteen holds the power of the Unknown. In Sidereal Astrology, there exists a thirteenth zodiac sign of the constellation Ophiuchus - The Serpent Bearer. Serpents are heralds of Truth, thus Ophiuchus, wrestling with Serpens for eternity, guards the doors to hidden and secret truths. His domain also surrounds the Crystal Realm at the centre of my universe, a realm of high vibrations and forms brought to their fullest potential. Only those seen as kin or worthy of that paradise and knowledge are permitted entry. A group of thirteen things is a Coven, and witch covens often guard secret knowledge and power themselves.
Numbers higher than these are rarely used in magick, as they can be factored down to their components. Two Unities create one Balance, Unity and Balance create one Harmony, two Balances create a Manifestation, and so forth. May the Mother guide you.
